Why did I choose Osteopathy as a Profession?
Osteopathy is a very rewarding career, however, in many places Osteopathy is not widely known yet. I did not know coming out of high school that Osteopathy was a option or a career. As a child and teenager I was a Taekwondo athlete. This fired up my interest in the human body, recovery, and performance. When I was 18 I was involved in a significant car accident that injured my spine and surrounding soft tissue. My life had to adapt in order to heal my body properly. Part of my healing progress was due to the help from a variety of therapists that used soft tissue therapy, joint mobilization and manipulation, MET's, therapeutic exercises, and different releases. I learnt so much about different therapists and practitioners, I then knew that I wanted a career which involved helping others. I became a Taekwondo instructor, and a Personal Fitness Trainer. Although those were incredibly rewarding careers, I wanted to take it one step further and become a practitioner that could help with discomfort, pain, and healing. I was given this opportunity and took it the first chance. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
